We took out a policy on both of our dogs for emergencies. We never use it for basic vaccinations, and I am not even sure if it covers that. I am very glad we took out the policies though, because one of our dogs is crazy and eats everything in sight if left unattended.

We have had to have three stomach surgeries performed on our dog over the years due to him eating things he shouldn t have. Each surgery ranged from $2,700 – $3,500 and ASPCA has reimbursed us about 70% for each surgery.

I submitted a claim for the exam and for further hospitalization as a anesthetized exam was required after the cut and infection did not heal for three weeks.

ASPCA rejected my claim stating it was an illness and not an injury (I only had injury protection).

The Examinations Diagnoses and Findings prepared by my vet in common language English on the itemized invoices that I submitted clearly indicate that the reason for visit and the findings were from a cut in his cheek that had gotten infected. Antibiotics were even prescribed for the infection.

HOW IS THIS CONSIDERED AN ILLNESS AND DENIED? That is preposterous. Antibiotics are only meant to fight bacterial infections. They cannot cure any illnesses as ASPCA would claim my dog had.

I cancelled my plan and will be submitted an appeal. However, my vet even said the appeal is highly unlikely and she sees this all the time. Save your money every month in a private account. It s not worth the premium. Read more
