The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 6 is headquartered in Fresno. This geographically diverse district is the second largest of the 12 Districts statewide, stretching from the southernmost part of Yosemite National Park in the north to the Mojave Desert.

District 6 Director – Sharri Bender Ehlert

Sharri Bender Ehlert was appointed District 6 Director in 2012. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of Planning, Project Management and Traffic Engineering to the position. Prior to her appointment, Sharri held the position as the Deputy District Director for Planning and Local Programs in District 6.

Sharri has worked for the California Department of Transportation (Department) for over 21 years. She came to the Department in 1988 as a Junior Civil Engineer in District 4, focusing her efforts on Highway Operations and Traffic Engineering. In 1990, she left State service and worked for a transportation consultant firm. She returned to the Department in 1997 and was later promoted to Senior Transportation Engineer in 2000. Her previous assignments include Acting Central Regional Environmental Division Chief, Project Manager, and Office Chief for Travel Demand Modeling and Forecasting.

Sharri is a native Californian having grown up in Bakersfield. She is a graduate of the University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
