When school is out, the Summer BreakSpot is in!

The Volusia County Public Library will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program sponsored by Volusia County’s Human Services Office.

All children age 18 and younger are eligible for nutritionally balanced meals at no charge. The programs are approved only for geographical areas where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced-price meals during the school year.

Meals will be served Monday through Friday unless otherwise indicated. All sites will be closed July 4.

  • John H. Dickerson Heritage Library. 411 S Keech St, Daytona Beach (June 5 through Aug. 11) Breakfast: 10 to 11 am; lunch: noon to 1 pm
  • DeLand Regional Library. 130 E Howry Ave, DeLand (June 5 through Aug. 11) Breakfast: 9:30 to 10:30 am; lunch: 12:30 to 1:30 pm
  • Lake Helen Public Library. 221 N Euclid Ave, Lake Helen (June 5 through Aug. 11) Lunch: 2:30 to 3:30 pm
  • Orange City Public Library. 148 Albertus Way (June 5 through Aug. 11) Breakfast: 9:30 to 10:30 am; lunch: 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Operation Million Minutes

The Daytona Tortugas and the Volusia County Public Library have teamed up with the Volusia County Elementary Schools to kick-off the 2017 Summer Reading Program, Operation Million Minutes.

The rules are simple. observe the time your child reads. When the hours for each base are reached, sign off on the score sheet on the back side of the form. When the Home Run level is achieved (360 minutes), turn in this form at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark or any branch of the Volusia County Public Library to claim your child’s free ticket to the August 9th game!

There will be an on field recogniton for children that reach the Home Run level at 6:30 pm at Jackie Robinson Ballpark August 9, 2017. Wear your school shirts! The game starts at 7:05 pm.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program

Join this exciting program for children ages 0 to 5. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. Enroll at your local branch!

Online tutorials for digital resources!

The Volusia County Public Library uses Niche Academy to provide online tutorials for some of our most popular digital services. These tutorials will walk you all the way through the process with the goal of providing a satisfying experience using the library’s digital resources.

Niche Academy tutorials provide up-to-date information and include:

  • Video instruction
  • Printable step-by-step guides
  • A mobile-responsive user interface
